Initiatives & Programs
In addition to providing grants to Allen County agencies to improve the long term health of the community, the Foundation has also created some initiatives and special programs to address areas of need that advance the ministry of the Foundation and our sponsor, the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. The major initiatives and programs operated by the Foundation include:
- Allen County Healthy Homes Program works with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the local Fort Wayne Allen County Department of Health to make the community free from lead and household hazards by 2010.
- Catherine Kasper Place, a ministry sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, builds and supports strategic alliances and ensures the availability of quality services and opportunities that advance the integration of immigrants, refugees and political asylees into the community of northeast Indiana.
- Community Health Resource Directory details over 70 local resources which help Allen County residents access quality, low-cost medical, dental, and mental health and wellness care.
- Healthcare Access Program (HAP) is a collaboration of local stakeholders aimed at strengthening Allen County’s "safety net" of healthcare providers who serve the most vulnerable in our community.
- Low Income Health Assessment Study identifed the health status, health behaviors, and access (utilization and barriers) to health care services of Allen County residents with household incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level.
- Refugee Health Initiative is a special effort to work with community partners, state, local and federal government to establish infrastructure to help the large surge of refugees relocating to Allen County access health and wellness services.
