Catherine Kasper Place

Catherine Kasper Place, a ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, builds and supports strategic alliances and ensures the availability of quality services and opportunities that advance the integration of immigrants, refugees and political asylees into the community of northeast Indiana.

Catherine Kasper Place, formerly the Community Resource Center for Refugees (CRCR) at 2826 S. Calhoun Street connects foreign-born, new arrivals with existing community organizations, resources, and individuals. This is achieved by offering educational programs and services designed to help new arrivals become self-sufficient and successfully integrate into the community. Assistance is also provided to area organizations to enable them to successfully connect with the new arrivals by offering cultural competency services office and meeting space, and introductions to newly-arriving ethnic groups. A variety of skills and education classes are offered at the facility, which include, but are not limited to, ESL (English as a Second Language), employment skills, healthy homes, healthcare navigation, disease prevention, volunteer training, etc. CKP serves between twenty and fifty people daily, by walk-in or by phone (260-456-8969).

St. Joseph Community Health Foundation

Description:Focuses on increasing healthcare access for the poor and vulnerable through private grants; by serving as fiscal agent for governmental grants, and by special initiatives. The Community Initiatives staff is available to help with collaborations at the Catherine Kasper Place, connections with other community resources, and in operating governmental grants and projects in the areas of refugee integration and health and wellness accessibility.

Allen County Lead & Healthy Homes Program:

Description:Culturally appropriate lead and home hazard education and interpretive services are provided for families of lead-poisoned children and the community at large. These services include community outreach education available in both English and Burmese. Co-sponsored by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Dept. of Health and the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation. For a lead screening call the Allen County Department of Health at (260) 449-7514 for an appointment. Burmese Advocacy Center:

Description:Staff provides individual counseling and classes for refugees on employment, independent life skills, health, disease prevention, and management. Volunteers provide help with public assistance and interpretation/translation for refugees. Services aim to allow Burmese to successfully integrate into the Fort Wayne community. The Reclamation Project:

Description:TRP operates the Circle of Friends program, which pairs American and refugee families together for the mutual enrichment gained through cross-cultural immersion, and the forming of natural friendships to aid the integration process.  TRP also coordinates classes to train American volunteers in English as a new language (ENL) to provide ongoing instruction to refugee families. FSSA: Family and Social Services Administration:

Description:Enrollment assistance for Burmese refugees to FSSA Medicaid, Food Stamps and other assistance programs. Advantage Health Solutions:

Description:ADVANTAGE Health Solutions, Inc, under contract with Indiana Medicaid, has developed the Indiana Medicaid Burmese Care Coordination Program located in the Catherine Kasper Place. Clientele:The clientele served by the Indiana Medicaid Burmese Care Coordination Program who are on Traditional Medicaid - a health insurance plan for Medicaid members that do not qualify for the other care programs. ADVANTAGE is also providing training assistance to other Medicaid members during the transition of care coordination efforts to the Managed Care Organizations. Catholic Charities:

Description:Case management information & referral services for secondary migrant refugees and those beyond the primary resettlement period up to 5 years in the U.S. Maintains data onnew secondary migrants relocating in the area and provides them with a community introduction to aid in integration. Burmese Muslim Community:

Description:The Burmese Muslim Community (BMC) helps Burmese refugees apply for utility and rent assistance from the Adams Township Trustee. They also work with community partners to provide ESL classes, training classes for sewing skills, religious classes during summers, transportation/interpretation to/for medical appointments, and computer classes to teach basic technological skills. Super Shot:

Description:Super Shot,Inc.is committed to helping prevent childhood diseases by providing immunizations for Hepatitis B, Meningococcal Meningitis, Influenza, Tetanus-Diptheria-Pertussis (Tdap), and Varicella (chickenpox) for children in Allen County at 30 clinics a month. Clientele:Allen County residents up to age 18. Hours:30 Clinics a month include the Center on 3rd & 4th Mondays from 4 -7 pm. Burmese Translators provided at Catherine Kasper Place. Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic (NCLC):

Description:NCLC offers free legal representation (in Landlord/Tenant, Housing/Foreclosure, Guardianship, Custody/Visitation, Child Support, Immigration, Bankruptcy, Consumer/Debt, Wills/Estates, SSI/SSD, Discrimination, Tax Controversies and others) and preventive law education to low-income and immigrant families/individuals. They do not accept criminal or divorce cases. Clientele:NCLC accepts clients throughout Central and Northeastern Indiana whose income is at or below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines. Crime Victim Care (CVC)

Description:Crime Victim Care (CVC) is a faith-based 501 (c ) 3 organization aiming to care, advocate, and support victims of crime. Services include criminal justice advocacy, court accompaniment, translation, transportation, individual and group counseling, family counseling, help in applying for restitution, parenting classes, family support, and emergency social and economic support. Clientele:Mostly immigrants, refugees, non-English speaking residents of Allen County. Victims and Family.
