Scholarships for Medical Interpreter Training
Since 2001, St. Joseph Community Health Foundation has actively supported programming to help individuals overcome language barriers to access care. An essential part of this work includes training interpreters in the best practices.
We are committed to increasing the local community’s capacity trained interpreters. We offer scholarships of up to $650 per person to individuals interested in advancing their skills in interpreter training who are engaged with the work of St. Joe Foundation grantees and community partners.
To apply, grantees and community partners of the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation may receive a $650 scholarship for each staff member /volunteer who they enroll in a high caliber course incorporating nationally recognized best practices. The grantee agency needs to answer the following questions.
- What is the name of the medical interpreter and/or interpreter training course that you would like to enroll your staff? Who offers the course and when?
- What is the staff or volunteer’s current title and role with your organization?
- What language(s) do they speak?
- Who is the staff member or volunteer’s supervisor at your organization, and do they support the staff member or volunteer’s enrollment into this course?
- Very briefly in 1-2 sentences, what is the hope for the staff member / volunteer to achieve as a result of this course.
- Do you agree to notify by email the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation when the staff member / volunteer completes the course along with their grade and a picture of their certificate?
When enrollment in the class is confirmed, a scholarship grant in the amount of $650 will be sent to the grantee organization.
